Jogulamba temple
Two hours at Alampur, by the Tungabhadra: the Jogulamba Shakti Peetha and the Navabrahma temples.
15–17 August 2025 · Two families in two cars over the Independence Day weekend: Alampur, Mantralayam, Kurnool, Mahanandi, the Narasimha temples of Ahobilam and Yaganti.
Press play to watch our car drive the whole trip, or pick a day. The red lines are the slow, narrow stretches.
At 1× the whole trip plays in about 1½ minutes, one day in about 30 seconds. Stops and nights are skipped quickly.
The line follows the roads between the places in our photos and the positions recorded by our Google Timeline. Times at stops come from the photos and the Timeline; between stops the replay spreads the drive evenly, so it does not show the actual speed at each point.
Open our shared map in Google Maps to see each day’s route and every stop, with times and notes. On a phone it opens in the Google Maps app.
Open tour map in Google Maps ↗Progress was slow on the narrow and ghat roads towards Ahobilam and on the Alampur–Mantralayam stretch. Other slowdowns were mainly due to traffic congestion.
| Section | Reason for low speed | |
|---|---|---|
| Mahanandi → Ahobilam | Very narrow roads and ghat sections | |
| Alampur → Mantralayam | Narrow and difficult road stretches, with congestion near the temple | |
| Other slow areas | Traffic congestion and local movement |
Two families travelled together in two cars, a Tata Tiago and a Maruti Suzuki S-Cross (Nexa): Vasavya, Usha, Adarsh and Spurthi, and Ganesh, Ramya, Sravan Karthikeya and Aaradhya. We set off from home in Hydernagar at 6:31 AM on 15 August and were back at 3:18 PM on 17 August.
Mahanandi → Ahobilam. From Mahanandi we took the roads along the Nallamala hills via Gajulapalle, Sirivella and Rudravaram, then the ghat road up to Upper Ahobilam. Very narrow roads and ghat sections made this the slowest leg of the trip.
Alampur → Mantralayam. After the Jogulamba temple we went west on village roads via Undavalli, Shanthinagar, Aiza and Nandavaram — narrow, difficult stretches with heavy speed breakers — and met congestion near the temple at Mantralayam.
Progress was slow on the narrow and ghat roads towards Ahobilam and on the Alampur–Mantralayam stretch. Other slowdowns were mainly due to traffic congestion.
The 10.8 km/h figure is the overall Timeline average for the Mahanandi–Ahobilam leg. The recorded period also includes stops and gaps, so it is not a stop-free driving average. On these roads, start early, keep to daylight on the ghat and expect speed breakers in every village.
Two hours at Alampur, by the Tungabhadra: the Jogulamba Shakti Peetha and the Navabrahma temples.
Evening darshan at Mantralayam after the village roads from Alampur.
The old fort in the middle of Kurnool, first thing in the morning.
The Mahanandeeswara Swamy temple and its spring-fed pools at the foot of the hills.
Up the narrow ghat road to Upper Ahobilam and the Karanja and Ugra Narasimha temples.
A night at Yaganti, the Uma Maheswara temple in the morning, and home on NH44.
Distances are by road between the places in our photos and Timeline, so they are approximate.
